Boise Solar Plant One Step Closer to Being a Reality

Posted by mchadek

Boise has leased 160 acres at the city’s 20 Mile South Farm to Sunergy World for the creation of a 20-megawatt solar power plant. Plans for this Boise/Sunergy World partnership were announced last June, and this new location “maximizes the size of the project,” said the company’s President Mark van Gulik, in a recent IdahoStatesman.com article. The project was originally planned to be put on land near the airport, but Cece Gassner, assistant to for economic development in the mayor's office, said that getting approval from the FAA for such a site by the airport would take a long time. So not only does this new location increase the size of the project but it also potentially speeds it up.

Sunergy hopes to start the foundation building midyear, focusing on completing 20 percent of the solar power plant within 2011. If the project is completed by 2012, “15,000 Boise homes could be getting their power from the sun,” wrote Anna Webb.
