Coachella Valley Closer to Solar Power Vision

Posted by mchadek

The Coachella Valley’s vision of a clean power utopia recently got a big boost from the state legislature and new Governor Jerry Brown when they passed a bill into law requiring one third of the power generated by utilities to come from renewable sources by the year 2020. Clean energy is nothing new for Coachella; they have some billion dollars of wind turbines, geothermal plants, and home solar panels already. Check out the recent editorial by the Desert Sun Editorial Board.

The valley has many plans in store: solar atop the convention center in Palm Springs, a 60-acre solar panel park by College of the Desert, an installation of over 1500 panels on top of Sea View Ranch, and a few large scale projects that will power hundreds of thousands of homes.
