Hotels Save Money with Solar Tubes
Just as with Homeowners, business owners and developers are seeing a win-win situation when they move towards sustainable concepts. A recent article online in The Reporter from Vacaville, California, "Bringing in the green: Hotels become eco-friendly", discusses numerous different ways that hotels are "casting an eye on savings and benefits while boosting their eco credentials". One of the highlighted ways hotels can go green, and save money, was with lighting:
"...hotel developer Wen Chang said low-flow water fixtures and skylights and so-called "solar tubes," which allows the hotel to shut off overhead lights during the day, translates into $50,000 to $70,000 in savings annually."
The article discussed a lot of other great things hotels are doing to be green and sustainable and there were items that hotels are doing that definitely demonstrated that this wasn't simply doing the easy things, things that aren't just for show, such as trying to use less toxic cleaning supplies, but that they are committed to moving forward in the right direction.
