Washington D.C. Community Cooperative Goes Solar
Every day more and more residents and communities are finding ways to utilize solar lighting and energy to save money on their electric bills. Voice of America has a great story about how The Mount Pleasant neighborhood in Washington has gone a bit further to organize a cooperative of 75 households to do just that.
“Despite the initial cost, the savings are big in the long run. Schoolman says the homeowners’ electrical bills have gone down as much as two-thirds. On top of that, the local electric company grants homeowners credit when their solar system generates more energy than they use.”
Additionally, coop member Erick Hoffland estimates they will pay off their investment costs in just three to five years.
